Fundación Celta joins a sustainability initiative that gives sunflower seed shells a second life

5 October 2026

Celta has launched a new environmental initiative aimed at promoting more sustainable habits on matchdays. The project will allow sunflower seed shells discarded by fans to be collected and transformed into compost, helping regenerate Galician forests affected by wildfires.

Supporters attending matches will receive dedicated bags to store the shells during the game. After the final whistle, the bags can be deposited in specially designated containers located at the stadium exits to ensure proper waste management.

The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with Agroamb, a company specialised in the recovery and transformation of organic waste, which will convert the collected shells into natural fertiliser for reforestation and environmental restoration projects.

Celta Integra Zelnova also plays an important role in the initiative. On every matchday, the programme’s players take part as volunteers, distributing the bags among supporters and helping raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and responsible environmental practices.

Their participation reflects the values promoted by Fundación Celta through Celta Integra Zelnova, showing how inclusion, community engagement and environmental responsibility can come together to create a positive impact.

Through initiatives like this, football continues to demonstrate its power to inspire meaningful change both on and off the pitch.

Because at Fundación Celta, we believe in football that transforms lives.
